Designing Change Symposium Announced
Unknown Studio’s Claire Agre is honored to be participating in Designing Change: Landscape Continuity in an Age of Uncertainty, a thought-provoking symposium that brings together leading voices in landscape architecture, ecology, and cultural heritage for a dynamic two-days set within the iconic beauty of Longwood Gardens.
Held October 15 & 16, 2025 and curated by Anita Berrizbeitia, Professor of Landscape Architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, this gathering invites practitioners, scholars, and visionaries to confront today’s challenges and chart a course for continuity, resilience, and design in an era of profound change.
This landmark event coincides with the unprecedented preservation, relocation, and reconstruction of the Cascade Garden—a modern masterwork by celebrated Brazilian landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx—now reborn at Longwood. Gain behind-the-scenes insight into one of the most ambitious preservation efforts in contemporary history, and how it may serve as a roadmap for preservation efforts of cultural landscape in the future.
Through a compelling lineup of keynote addresses, lightning talks, and panel discussions, the symposium explores urgent questions at the intersection of ecological and cultural stewardship. Topics include emerging paradigms in preservation, the fusion of biological and cultural conservation, and the future of historic estate landscapes.
