Celebrating the Return of the Druid Lake Loop
We recently took a spin around the newly opened path at the lake at Druid Hill Park, and …. Yes, the loop is finally back!
Neighbors as well as cyclists and residents from around the city have been eagerly awaiting the re-opening of this section of trail adjacent to the water.
The Druid Park loop, a small section along the Jones Falls Trail, is a popular bike and pedestrian path, traditionally looping around the lake at the south edge of Druid Hill Park. Since 2017, this section of trail and walking loop has been closed due to the Department of Public Works Potable Drinking Water Tanks Project. A cofferdam, required for the tank construction, now forms a temporary part of the loop around the lake, forming the connection between the south and north edges of the lake on the west side.
But this is not the end!
Together with Baltimore City Rec and Parks, Unknown Studio is in mid-design for the future Druid Lake project, an entirely new lakeside park which will reconnect people to the park, and neighbors to the lake through the creation of places to sit, swim, play, and more.
Although some areas are still under construction, and we have a few years before the ultimate park is built, we are thrilled to see this terrific amenity returned to the community in the interim.
