Unknown Studio to Lead Bellona Triangle Park

Unknown Studio is excited to partner with the York Road Improvement District and Parks & People to create a new public micro-park on Baltimore's historic York Road.

York Road has linked Baltimore to its periphery as a main commercial corridor since the 1700s. In the 19th and 20th centuries, urban designers like the Olmsted Brothers used the road as a barrier to separate neighborhoods from East to West. That legacy is still legible today in local demographics, wealth disparity, tree canopy, one-way roads, walls, and other barriers. But York Road also serves as an important and heavily-used thoroughfare for commuters and locals alike, and hosts a growing ecosystem of local businesses - restaurants, movie theaters, automotive repair - and institutions like schools, churches, and libraries.

Located within this busy confluence, Bellona Triangle Park can offer a unique gathering space for community use within its small footprint. Unknown Studio will conduct community engagement throughout Summer 2025 to understand what local needs and desires the green space can address. The site has active neighbors and an existing shady tree canopy, key assets along a hot and busy roadway. We are excited to join in the thoughtful place-making work of our project partners and build on the momentum and investments along York Road.
