Developed as part of the Baltimore Museum of Art’s yearlong Turn Again to the Earth exhibition, the project transforms 4,000 square feet of traditional lawn into a vibrant, ecologically rich meadow. The planting features a diverse palette of 58 species, carefully selected for their resilience and ability to thrive under the site’s specific conditions. The meadow is composed of a broad seeding of a Northeast Annual & Perennial Wildflower Mix, interplanted with landscape plugs that are arranged to provide seasonal interest, color, and structural variety throughout the year.
Unknown Studio assisted in the layout, planting, and development of long-term maintenance standards for the meadow. Over the course of a year, the planting has flourished, alive with pollinators, birds, and a dynamic display of texture and bloom. The project demonstrates the value of meadows not only for their beauty, but also for their ability to support biodiversity, improve soil health, and create a living, evolving landscape that connects people to the cycles of nature.
